The International
Association of World Peace Advocates IAWPA wants more Nigerian women to play
greater role in the global body.
The group made this known
in an interaction with the International Spokesman of the association Amb.
Emmanuel Nkweke in Lagos.
Amb. Nkweke while
congratulating Mrs. Amina Mohammed on her appointment as UN deputy Secretary
General said her appointment should spur other Nigerian women to participate in
United Nations activities so as to be identified. He said it is against the
backdrop of her appointment that the association is seeking the support of
various state and local governments in the country to help sponsor various
women leaders to activities of the United Nations that tend to promote the
cause of women all over the world.
While hailing the
emergence of the new Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, Amb.
Nkweke said he has confidence that the new Secretary General will deliver in
his position as head of the United Nations.
He said the International
Association of World Peace Advocates IAWPA will be organizing a reception
luncheon in honour of the new Secretary General of the world body. “You know by
the special grace of God Almighty, I was one of the black personalities that
took part in the screening committee that threw up Anthonio Guterres as
Secretary General of the United Nations. In order to show our support to his
emergence, our association has concluded plans for a reception / lunch break in
honour of his emergence. We also hope to use that day to flag off the United
Nations Association of Africa to fast track the progress of the UN in Africa
under the leadership of Anthonio Guterres” he concluded.
